blue period // tsubasa yamaguchi

Hi everyone! 🎨

Always I like read, since i was a child i loved the books and their was a pretty escape from reality to fantastics worlds with much adventure and emotion. However, it gets tough get back each time take the habit and have the time to finish a book. The damned requiered reading of the last years of schools and the university led me a awful block reader, something that even frustrated me until today. But, since the quarentine started, i went into a new world of the lecture: the manga. I read in this formate before but not the same intensity like i do now haha, so, after for overcome to thousandth time the shame to talk about my personal tastes, i come with a new review.

Blue Period is the first proyects of long duration by Tsubasa Yamaguchi, that started to published since 2017 and she has been recogniced to be the winner of two awards for best manga of 2019 in their respective magazine publication. The history could be catalogued like a seinen by slice of life, this is centre in how the artistics and humanities careers are undervalued in the society, and how a young boy put all his effort in join at the only public university of Japan where providing his greater passion.

Yatora Yaguchi is a studient in his last year of school, the people considered a “delinquent” for spend his days watch football matches, smooking and drinking beer with his friends by the morning (something not good seen for the japanese society). Despite this, he have a gift to the studies unlike his friends, but he haven’t clear in that he want dedicated in his life and the art isn’t neither option at this point.

Yes, sounds very typical plot, however, Blue Period it’s regarding of a realistic way to the world of the arts and how this it’s a tool to know yourself. Yatora have a revelation at encounter with the painting by a girl of art club, and without knowing of this world he decided dedicate oneself from scratch, and is where discovered that behind the “talent” there is a great effort and personal growth, following for a big competitiveness where is not easy highlight.

The history, being aware that the reader may not familiar arts in general, is full of details and explainations like paint and drawing techniques, colour mixture, the complexity of enter to the university and the expression of the paintings, that could be some tedious if that is not your looking for in this manga, but for me result interesting to see because i feel that the reader is learning next to the protagonist while also you can apreciated the beauty of every painting that the characters make.

And well, if you were attract attention the art and you never have has a approach it, this history is for you!! Personally, in my frustration for not be good in this aspect it caught me very deeply, i feel the self-knowledge of the characters is transfered to oneself and i’m given to understand that nothing is imposible to do and with much effort and motivation you can make big things (obviously if you have the ways for to do).

🌸🌸 Thanks for reading me! I hope you rest this week 🌸🌸
